Kneeling -- rather than standing -- during the national anthem at the start of football games is a courageous gesture intended to protest police killing of unarmed American citizens.
The draft evading habitual liar that is called "President" has cleverly shifted the dialogue to claim this is disrespecting the country and the flag and the national anthem.
He should not be allowed to get away with this. The public need to be reminded what kneeling is all about. It is to protest police killing of unarmed American citizens.
Democrats do not control the NFL players who are doing this, but the protest has been turned into a partisan issue by Donald Trump, making people forget the motivation behind the kneeling.
To defeat Trump's framing of the kneeling as "disrespect for the nation, the anthem, the flag", and to turn the focus back on the intention of protesting homicidal police killing of unarmed citizens, I respectfully use this public forum to urge NFL players to adopt a new tactic, as follows.
Shift gears by standing for the anthem - then immediately afterwards mime police shooting (a black) (several blacks) in the back. Have a player run away and be chased by another player who mimes shooting... and have the chased player fall down. Maybe repeat once or twice to increase the impact. After the game is ended, have players be ready to give well prepared sound bites explaining the point of the demonstration — saying this event was staged to protest the police shootings... ready to give names and dates of unarmed persons shot by police... and give the networks footage of fleeing people being shot. Try to include some unarmed whites being shot, if any can be found. I think it would be useful to transit from Black Lives Matter to All Lives Matter... the former is racially selective and therefore --- ta da -- racist. And progressives do not want to be tagged as racist.
Alternatively, continue kneeling, and add on the miming of a police shooting.
