A friend, called Karen, says she very strongly opposes a ban on abortion. But she does not vote. So I ask her why. And she says “My vote won't make a difference”.
This is both true and a lie. The truth is that one vote is very unlikely to make a difference. But it is a lie because if millions of voters act on this logic, Democrats will lose elections not because they stand for the wrong things, but because certain lazy buggers won't get off their behinds and register and vote.
So... accept no excuses. Not voting is a selfish and stupid act with potentially lethal consequences. Why did 9/11 happen, and why have we spent several trillion dollars in Iraq and Afghanistan causing thousands of American deaths, and tens of thousands of Americans seriously injured, and causing hundreds of thousands of Iraqi and Afghan lives and millions of injuries and millions made homeless? And why are we still spending hundreds of billions on the War on Terror ?
Because a few thousand Democrats in Florida failed to vote, and failed to elect Al Gore. I am absolutely convinced that Gore would have paid attention to the warnings, and taken efficient action. And even if an attack on the U.S. had taken place, I am absolutely convinced that Gore would not have made the hare-brained decision to invade Iraq.
So... “your vote DOES matter”
