“The Good Company” by Robert Girling describes a movement already in progress that could change the face of capitalism  It tells the stories of more than 20 inspiring companies like Clif Bar, Triodos Bank, Semco, Eileen Fisher and Google.

The aim of this movement is to change business and the workplace in the direction of kinder and gentler and more ethical, and moving away from the model where the dominant goal is to maximize shareholder value, and towards a model in which the interests of all stakeholders — employees, community, owners -- are properly served.

And, very very very important, it shows that companies which adopt good policies can do rather well in the marketplace and produce healthy profits.

The author is a professor of business and economics at Sonoma State University.  He got his undergraduate degree from University of Sussex in England and his doctorate from Stanford.

Amazon is selling a Kindle edition for $0.00 to Amazon Prime members,  $3.99 to others, and is listing a price of $59.99 for the paperback.
