In the Univision debate with Bernie last night your tendency to answer questions in full in a rational and detailed manner worked against you when answering questions about Benghazi, emails, and "why is Hillary distrusted"? These are routine questions you should absolutely answer in an aggressive and overpowering manner. Here are suggestions on how you should have answered these three questions.
Benghazi: The Republicans came up with this lame nonsense about Benghazi in the last weeks of Mitt Romney's failed campaign against President Obama, because they had so little grounds for criticizing the President’s foreign policies. The fact is we managed to achieve the overthrow of an enemy -- Colonel Gadafy -- with no boots on the ground and with very few casualties and at very low financial cost. The Republicans overthrew Saddam Hussein at the cost of trillions of dollars, many thousands of American lives. [IF TIME PERMITS ALSO SAY: Republicans tried to turn Benghazi into a big political issue because they had no real issues against the President's foreign policy, and for several years now they have trying to turn Benghazi against me, because they knew I might be a presidential candidate. Because they have no really legitimate criticisms of my tour as Secretary of State. And I should add - did Democrats ever call George W. Bush to account for failing to act on intelligence that would have prevented 9/11 ? NO. Did we ever politicize the Beirut bombing that occurred under President Reagan's watch ? NO. Republican political campaigning sometimes gets very dirty and dishonest…. like the swiftboating of John Kerry]
Emails: When Republicans are desperate to find something to bash an opponent with, they will come up with the most extraordinmaily small and trivial things, and turn them into big hoo-hahs. This was the case with Benghazi. And it is the case with emails. Previous secretaries of state handled emails in the same way, like Colin Powell. There were no rules saying I could not do this. Trying to make emails an issue shows how desperate the Republicans are, shows how little they can find to criticize me for. They are making a big deal out of a teeny tiny detail.
Why is Hillary distrusted: The attacks on the Clintons began with Whitewater, where nothing was found. The personal attacks on me began back in 1994 when I was working hard to make policies that would give all Americans an affordable access to good health care. The attacks on me have continued over the years because the Republicans have been afraid I would run for President. I have one question for you: tell me one thing where I have betrayed the trust of the American people.
