Kim is an old friend and a household helper. Have been getting on her case to register and vote for the last five or six years. This morning she arrived and said, provocatively “Obamacare is bullshit”.
I asked why she was saying this. Because, she said, it does not cover her son, who is in Maine and homeless, and very sick, and Obamacare does not cover the homeless.
I said that does not make Obamacare bullshit.
I said the reason it does not cover the homeless is the Republicans have fought Obamacare at every step. I said Obamacare is just one step — a very large step -— in the direction of universal health care, so her son could go to any healthcare provider and get help.
Kim has a perfectly good brain but pays zero attention to politics, thinks there is no point, that her vote makes no difference. Maybe she was just winding me up. Anyway I gave her my standard “for god’s sake wise up and register and vote and help extend Obamacare and defeat the Republicans who want to get rid of Obamacare.”
Then she said “If I vote, it will be for Trump.” Seems like her main issue is preventing refugees from entering this country, because some of them may be terrorists. Arrgghhh !!
The takeaway from all this…. instead of just trying to defend Obamacare, say Democrats want universal healthcare and Republicans are fighting it…
