Fearmongering about social security ... on the Weather Channel...

One of the dirtiest tricks in the Republican bag of dirty tricks for attacking Social Security is ostensibly independent organizations posting ads on the internet that offer outlandish rewards to people who will take advantage of loopholes in Social Security rules that are described in detail if you follow the advice offered in the link.

This evening I checked the Weather Channel to see what weather tomorrow might bring, and encountered the ad shown above.

I followed the arrow,  which led into an elaborate half hour smear of Social Security, put on by an organization that calls itself the Palm Beach Group with a website  http://pros.palmbeachgroup.com.

I don’t have the journalistic resources to investigate this group or check which of their claims are lies and which are half truths and which are really true.  But it is as clear as night follows day that the intention is to scaremonger people into believing they will receive from social security only 75 per cent of what they put in, to believe that the government is taking away from their Social Security and Medicare benefits to finance “Obamacare”, and generally to say that Social Security is insecure.

I have seen this kind of Republican dirty trick before, to lure seniors into thinking the government is out to fleece them and cannot be trusted.

Any other Kossacks see this kind of stuff ?

And … I have not seen any attempt by Democratic campaigns to combat this kind of propaganda,  which in this particular case is clearly aimed at bending seniors to vote Republican.
